Han Zheng, Chinese vice president and President Xi Jinping’s special representative to attend the opening ceremony of the 33rd Olympic Games, wished the Paris Games success during his talks with French President Emmanuel Macron at the Elysee Palace in Paris on Friday afternoon. China Peng Liyuan, wife of Chinese President Xi Jinping, on Friday attended the « Love in the Sunshine » summer camp for children from China and Africa, which is being held in Beijing. Peng is a World Health Organization (WHO) goodwill ambassador for tuberculosis and HIV/AIDS, and a United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) special envoy for the advancement of girls’ and women’s education. In a speech on Friday, she said that the summer camp is not only a get-together for Chinese and African children, but also a clear demonstration of the closeness between China and the African continent. Chinese and African people have always understood and supported one another in their pursuit of happiness, Peng said. And as a companion on Africa’s development path, she added, China is not only committed to ensuring the healthy growth of Chinese children, but also to contributing its strength to the healthy growth of African children. Noting that China and Africa will always be sincere friends, Peng expressed the hope that all of the children at the summer camp would become the inheritors of the traditional friendship between China and Africa, and a new force in the construction of a China-Africa community with a shared future. Participants representing all of the children who gathered for the summer camp expressed their sincere thanks to Peng for her long-term care, and said that they would cherish their time, study hard and become messengers for the China-Africa friendship. The 20th Central Committee of the Communist Party of China concluded its third plenary session on Thursday with a communique issued. The following is the full text of the communique: Communique of the Third Plenary Session of the 20th Central Committee of the Communist Party of China Adopted at the Third Plenary Session of the 20th Central Committee of the Communist Party of China on July 18, 2024 The 20th Central Committee of the Communist Party of China convened its third plenary session in Beijing from July 15 to 18, 2024. A total of 199 members and 165 alternate members of the Central Committee attended the session. Members of the Standing Committee of the Central Commission for Discipline Inspection and leading officials from other relevant departments were present at the meeting in a non-voting capacity. Some of our colleagues working at the primary level and a number of experts and scholars who were delegates to the 20th National Party Congress also attended the meeting in a non-voting capacity. The Political Bureau of the Central Committee presided over the meeting. General Secretary of the Central Committee Xi Jinping delivered important addresses. At the session, the Central Committee heard and discussed a report on the work of the Political Bureau, presented by Xi Jinping on behalf of the Political Bureau, and considered and adopted the Resolution of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China on Further Deepening Reform Comprehensively to Advance Chinese Modernization. Xi Jinping delivered explanatory remarks on the draft version of the Resolution.
